A Tree Grows in Brooklyn

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith (AKA There’s a Market in Brooklyn)

I am writing this report with my extremely negative point of view.

“It feels like you’re trapped in a room and all the words are closing in on you, and you’re getting claustrophobic, and there filling up your brain” – Amelia M

If you like boring, wordy, long books with no plot than this is the book for you! Before reading become prepared to be frustrated with smart girl, and her smart family’s judgment. This book is a book about going to the market- don’t worry, nothing happens there. Don’t get to attached to the characters- oh wait, that’s impossible. Where does the tree come in you ask? Answer, it doesn’t, they mention it once. I strongly hate this book and the only thing I like about it is the name Kate. This story is boring, vague-yet-detailed, wordy, long, uninteresting, dull, and a variety of others.

This book is about being vague in important places, and being extremely detailed as they walk to the walk to the market for the 1000th time. If you like markets, you won’t after you finish this book. There really isn’t a plot in this book, just little stories. This book is life a slice of life, no scratch that, it’s the entire pie. Now that I'm farther into the book, there is a larger plot of the main character Francie, going to school, but nothing has really happened so far.
